Intro

Today's theme is conversations at the hospital (びょういん). Let's practice expressions you can use right away in the examination room, so you won't panic when you're feeling sick in Japan.

5 Key Expressions

1. 具合（ぐあい）が悪（わる）いんです。 I'm not feeling well.

2. 熱（ねつ）があります。 I have a fever.

3. いつから症状（しょうじょう）がありますか？ Since when have you had these symptoms?

4. 薬（くすり）を処方（しょほう）します。 I will prescribe medicine.

5. 保険証（ほけんしょう）をお願（ねが）いします。 Your insurance card, please.

Fill in the Blanks - 5 Questions

1. ＿＿が悪いんです。(I'm not feeling well.)

2. 昨日（きのう）から＿＿が止（と）まりません。(My cough hasn't stopped since yesterday.)

Speaking Practice - 3 Exercises

Try explaining your symptoms to the doctor: 「三日前（みっかまえ）からお腹（なか）が痛（いた）くて、食欲（しょくよく）がありません。」 (I've had a stomachache since three days ago, and I have no appetite.)

Try speaking at the reception desk: 「初診（しょしん）なんですが、予約（よやく）なしでも大丈夫（だいじょうぶ）ですか？」 (This is my first visit -- is it okay without an appointment?)

Try asking at the pharmacy: 「この薬（くすり）は食後（しょくご）に飲（の）むんですか？」 (Should I take this medicine after meals?)
