It moves from wondering whether there is a place to start toward wondering when the place you are standing on disappears. This post splits that fear in two: depreciation of what you built, and decline in your capacity to rebuild. It then divides knowledge into three layers with different shelf lives to see what actually goes stale and what remains, and sets out three conditions under which the same decade becomes an asset and four under which it becomes a liability.
