At Meta Connect 2024, Meta unveiled Orion, the first true full-color AR glasses prototype, putting concrete distance on the &quot;Holy Grail&quot; for the first time. At the same event, Ray-Ban Meta 2nd gen solidified the displayless AI-glasses category with Meta AI live translation and &quot;Hey Meta, what is this?&quot; Apple Vision Pro 2 refreshed the spatial computing vision with visionOS 2 and lighter weight, and Snap Spectacles 5 launched as developer-only to grow the Lens ecosystem. CES 2025 darling Halliday Glasses defined AI-first minimal design, while RayNeo X3 Pro and Xreal One Pro brought the Chinese price-to-performance push, and Brilliant Labs Frame and Even Realities G1 showed open-source and minimalist alternative paths. On the hardware side micro OLED, diffractive waveguides, GaAs lasers, and neural displays all advanced at once; on the software side visionOS, Lens Studio, Meta XR SDK, WebXR, OpenXR, Niantic Lightship, and 8thWall compete for standard status.
