The Generational Shift in Languages and Runtimes — Eleven Projects Read Through Their Official EOL Notices

Eleven languages, frameworks and runtimes with official end-of-life notices on record. Python 2, AngularJS, Vue 2, Nashorn, Java applets and Web Start, Mono, Xamarin, PhoneGap, Atom, io.js and jQuery Mobile, each split into what it was, why it was right at the time, what changed with a linked source, what took its place, what it left behind, and when it is still the correct choice. In this layer end dates are usually stated plainly in official documentation, which makes status checking relatively easy. It also covers io.js, which forked and then merged back, and Mono and Atom, whose code survives as the foundation of other projects. Every status claim was checked against the original source on 12 August 2026.
